typically range from 3.5HP to 6HP and are identified as 35, 375, 40, 50, 60. There are also various ranges within the Briggs
and Stratton Quantum engine group such as: Quantum Power, XTE, XM, I/C
Their Briggs and Stratton Engine Model numbers start with 12.
They have a paper type air filter on the side of the engine carburetor within a
plastic cover.
There is either a cable controlled choke, or a rubber push primer on the front of
the carburetor for cold engine starting
The carburetor is a float type mounted to the side of the engine.
The fuel tank is plastic and wraps around the back of the engine.
The oil dipstick is located at the right rear corner of the engine viewed from behind
the engine and is a bayonet fitting.
Briggs and Stratton Intek Engines
Briggs and Stratton Intek vertical crankshaft ( rotary lawnmower etc) engines typically
range from 5HP to 6.5HP and are identified as 50, 60, 65.
The Briggs and Stratton Intek is the Overhead Valve version of the Quantum (2) engine
and are often fitted to larger, higher spec. rotary lawn mower or small ride on lawn mower applications.They have the typical
metal overhead valve cover. Many of the spare parts are similar to those of the Briggs and Straton Quantum engine.
